2010 Haitian Earthquake Mission Availability

In response to the catastrophic 7.0 earthquake in Haiti, the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps has received several requests for assistance from ASPR and components of the Department of Defense. The Commissioned Corps was activated by the ASH for this response.

  • To maintain communications and support, designated on call officers will be sent to the Secretary’s Operation Center (SOC), managed by the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) to fulfill liaison and administrative roles.
  • OFRD is anticipating requests for officers to support the Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), other Navy Ships and potential ground based missions in Haiti. OFRD will query the availability of on call Corps assets to support if needed.
  • OFRD is anticipating additional requests to support repatriation missions domestically.
  • Also, OFRD will  continue to identify Creole and French speaking commissioned officers who might support additional HHS assets.

The operational period for this mission will be 15 January 2010 with an unspecified end date. Unless otherwise notified, deployments will be 2 weeks in duration.
