What do I do when I am sent to the general error page?

Q: I was sent to the general error page.  What do I do now?

A: The general error page appears when there was an error detected by the underlying program code.  These errors can be caused by a variety of reasons, few of which are in your control.  The problem may have originated at your computer or the website's computer or anywhere in between.

The first thing that you should do is to send an email to the WebMaster.  Include in the email message a short description of what you were doing when the error occured and your userid (PHS Serial Number).

Often times, simply going back to the last operation and reloading the page will be enough to correct the problem.  Sometimes you may need to exit from your web browser and relogin to the website.  Sometimes the problem may require you to restart your computer.  You should try each of these steps.  If the previous steps have not resolved the problem, try to repeat the action on another computer.

The system automatically logs the error.  The WebMaster will attempt to debug the problem using this log as well as the information that you provide.  The WebMaster may request that you navigate to the CCRF System Debugging page and perform some test operations.   If this is the case,   the WebMaster will walk you step-by-step through this process.
