Training FAQs

I cannot attend field training with my team at the assigned time. How do I sign up for an alternative training slot?

On the OFRD Field Training 2009 website, you can indicate that you are unable to attend field training at your team’s scheduled time. You will need to select two alternative training weeks. Once this is done, OFRD will inform you which of the two weeks you will be attending.

Examples of why officers may request alternative training dates:
1) Births and Pregnancy (Officers who feel at risk or who are informed by their physician that they are at risk will be excused; secure a medical waiver as needed)
2) Medical Waivers
3) Medical Emergencies/deaths
4) Weddings
5) Taking kids to college
6) Must-have training for your job, or rare training
7) Previously scheduled vacations (based on the honors system)
What environment will we be training in?

We will be training in an austere field environment, similar to what one could expect after a hurricane. We expect it to be hot and humid. Sleeping quarters will be in air-conditioned barracks.

How do I get to field training?

Once you have finished uploading your information to the OFRD Field Training 2009 website, our travel contractor will coordinate your travel and will email you your itinerary.

If you are flying in, you can expect to arrive at BWI Airport on the first day of your assigned training week. Shuttles from BWI will leave at 1200 and at 1600 in order to ensure that all travelers arrive at Fort AP Hill by 1800.

If you live within a one hour drive of BWI Airport, you will be expected to drive yourself to BWI and take a shuttle to Fort AP Hill.

If you live within a three hour drive of Fort AP Hill, you will be expected to drive yourself to Fort AP Hill.

What should I bring?

A packing list will be forthcoming, though you should pack as if you are deploying. The uniform will be BDUs with a ballcap instead of a cover. Alcohol is strictly prohibited. Food and drink will be provided.

Is anyone excused from field training?

If you are currently deployed or have a medical waiver, you are excused from field training. Any other significant reason needs to be excused by your team leader; otherwise, we expect you to attend.

As a team leader, am I responsible for training my team during field training?

The training curriculum, which will be out within the next couple of weeks, allocates time for team leaders to work with their teams on team-specific concerns.
